(BEDFORD) - The Knights of Columbus Council 1166 will be conducting their annual Tootsie Rolls drive to help mentally handicapped citizens on September 7th and 8th.
Greg Stanley, who is overseeing this year's drive says, the Knights will be standing at the entrances of Walmart, Kmart, Hometown IGA and the Hoosier Hill Credit Union branches in Bedford and Mitchell to hand people Tootsie Rolls, hoping they give donations in return.
The funds raised locally go directly to Englewood School and the LARC Center to support members of the community who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In the past, Englewood has used the money to fund adaptive equipment to help its students overcome various physical impairments.
LARC uses the funds to further its mission of providing job training and employment opportunities for its clients.
To date, Stanley says the Bedford council has raised $230,000 through the Tootsie Roll drive.
Those who cannot donate in-person can send contributions to: The Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 116, in Bedford or contact Greg Stanley at 583-5828.
