(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County council approved the budgets for Bedford’s budget, plus the financial plans for Mitchell, Oolitic, the two county school corporations and the two libraries and each township Tuesday night.
Bob Bridge of the Times-Mail reports that none of the groups had to summarize their budgets because the council's approval is non-binding and the council decided to save time by recommending each group do what the state requires them to do.
Council members also conducted a final run through of their budget, which proposes a 3 percent hike for all workers.
Their most popular action Tuesday was creating a new line item with an allocation of $15,000 for the Lawrence County Historical and Genealogical Society.
The White River Humane Society also got a boost. Its allocation was raised from $35,000 to $45,000.
Not every wish was granted. The salary committee denied several requests, and a few other decisions were tabled until Sept. 25 when the council will vote on the budget.
