(BEDFORD) - Next weekend the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police will be teaming up with a national drug enforcement organization to help curb problems with prescription drug abuse and theft.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring the fifth nationwide "Prescription Drug Take Back" initiative next Saturday, September 29th.
Sheriff Sam Craig says the "Take Back" initiative is intended to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft.
"This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked," Craig says. "The only restriction is no needles will be accepted. This program is intended for liquid and pill medications only."
Sgt. Chad Dick with the Indiana State Police at Jasper says Drug Take Back events have proven to be a popular and safe method for the public to legally and safely dispose of prescription drugs that are no longer needed or have expired.
