The 21-year-old Marine killed in a minesweeping operation reportedly in the Helmand Province of southern Afghanistan.
According to the Defense Department in Washington, Lance Corporal Terwiske was in the gunner's chair of the vehicle with other members of his mobile assault company when it struck a roadside bomb.
The explosion caused the vehicle to overturn on top of Terwiske. He was pronounced dead later at a U. S. Military medical facility. Another marine was also killed by the explosion.
Terwiske had volunteered to be the gunner on the minesweeping operation. The gunner is seated on the outside of the vehicle.
The news was delivered to his parents Alan and Sandy Terwiske on Sept. 3rd. He was a graduate of Northeast Dubois High School.
Terwiske joined the Marines in 2010 and left for Afghanistan in April on his first tour of duty.
