(PEKIN) - 19-year-old Billy G. Taylor Jr, of Pekin, was arrested on felony neglect charges after he placed his infant son in scalding hot water.
According to a probably cause affidavit Taylor was caring for his son, who was just 12 weeks old, when he placed the baby in a situation endangering his health or life.
Police says Taylor burned the child's arm with the scalding water. Taylor told police he spilled the water while attempting to heat a bottle.
But according to police Taylor failed to immediately seek medical for the baby.
The child was finally taken to St. Vincent emergency room, and personnel notified te Department of Child Services . The baby was then taken to Kosair Children's Hospital for treatment.
Taylor was charged with neglect of a dependent, a Class C felony, in connection with the April incident and is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a bond of $40,000 full cash, $180,000 surety or $360,000 property.
