(ORLEANS) - A Mitchell man was arrested after a crash in Orleans early this morning.
According to Orleans Police Department Chief Roy McFarland, police were called to the wreck at 3:37a.m., in front of the Depot Tavern after a driver hit a parked car and then fled the scene.
When police arrived they found 27-year-old Noah S. Mahan, of Orleans lying in the road in front of Orange County Concrete on Jefferson Street.
According to witnesses, Mahan had witnessed a driver of a 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck back into a parked 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix belonging to Richard M. and Ashley N. Cowan, of Orleans at the Depot Tavern on Jefferson Street.
Witnesses told police that Noah Mahan jumped on the driver's side of the pickup of 25-year-old Steffen Wyatt, of Mitchell, as he was leaving the scene.
Mahan allegedly hit Wyatt in the face causing injury and then y fell off the pickup truck and was run over by the truck.
The Mitchell Police Department was contacted and they attempted to locate Wyatt. Mitchell Police with the assistance of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department apprehended him a short time later.
Wyatt was taken by police to IU Health Paoli where he was treated and released. After being released from the hospital Wyatt was taken to the Orange County Jail where he was incarcerated on charges of failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury, failure to stop after an accident resulting in damage to a vehicle, and criminal recklessness with a vehicle.
Mahan was taken to U of L Hospital by the Air Evac helicopter where he was treated for his injuries.
The Orleans Police Department was assisted by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, Mitchell Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Orleans Fire Department and IU Health Paoli Ambulance personnel.
