(ODON) - The community of Odon is in mourning following the death of 17-year-old Samantha Porter.
The Odon teen died after she crashed her car on County Road 1200 North.
Porter, a junior, was a cheerleader for North Daviess High School. She was the daughter of Dr. Bryan Porter of Odon.
According to police Porter was trying to avoid hitting a cat in the roadway when she lost control of her 1999 Mercury Cougar and went off the north side of the road and hit a utility pole on the driver's side door.
Porter was not wearing her seatbelt and suffered massive head trauma.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Chris Coney.
Assisting at the scene of the accident were the Odon Police Department, Coroner's office, Odon-Madison Volunteer Fire Department, Southwest Medical EMS and Duke Energy.
