(OWENSBURG) - The 37th Annual Owensburg Founder’s Day celebration will be observed this weekend.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that a local Boy Scout troop will kick things off by serving dinner Friday night as a fundraiser in the yard of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Hatfield Museum Public Library. There will be potato soup, chili, and hot dogs.
A full schedule of events will be featured Saturday.
There will be live music, food, crafts, parade, and much more in this small southeastern Greene County community.
Live music begins at 10 a.m., and the parade is featured at 2 p.m.
There will be a Comedy Magic Show for the kids at 3 p.m. at the Owensburg Fire Station, and pie contest judging is at 3 p.m.
One of the festival's organizers, Kim Waldridge, said the event is similar to a family reunion.
"Come to Owensburg Founder's Day for a true hometown family reunion atmosphere. Many of the vendors are local people who just love Owensburg and come back every year to visit with friends. The pie contest brings a great competition among the hometown bakers. Sometimes family rivalry is fierce during the pie competition," Waldridge said.
"The local library provides a great comedy magic show for the kids each year. Even the adults love the show. Music is provided by talented area musicians and singers. The parade is always fun with the community kids on bikes, fire trucks and the wonderful (Eastern Greene) Thunderbird Marching Band. The local Boy Scout troop is providing dinner Friday night for a fundraiser. And they always march in the parade proudly displaying our flags.
"Local talent sings our National Anthem and always brings a chill and a possible tear. We would love to have you join our community family this Friday night and Saturday at Owensburg."
