(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Persimmon Festival is just a couple of weeks away, and members of the festival’s Art Show committee are seeking entries for this year’s event.
The show will be staged on the lower level of the Mitchell Community Public Library during festival week.
Local artists can enter one of two divisions: the judged or non-judged show. Those entering the judged division will be charged $5 for each entry. Those in the non-judged division can enter for free.
Those entering the judged division will be competing for ribbons and prize money. There are five categories within this division: Landscape and Waterscape; Still Life and Florals; Portrait and People; Animal and Birds; and Abstract/Non-objective/Fantasy. There will be a Best of Show and People's Choice as well. Those in the non-judged division will be eligible only for the People's Choice award.
Entrants must be or have been an Indiana resident and be post high school. Artists will be limited to three entries, space permitting. If entry is quite large, only one entry will be accepted. Art work must be framed with strong wire for hanging (saw tooth hangers are not acceptable. Artwork must be original, two-dimensional work including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pencil, etc.
No crafts of any kind; or artwork shown in previous years, will be allowed. No artwork containing nudity or any indecent, obscene or offensive material (as determined by the committee in its sole discretion) may be entered or displayed.
Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, on the lower level of the library.
The show will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thurdsday of festival week as well as 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Artists may pick up their work from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. This is the only time committee members will be on hand to release the work. Library staff is not authorized to release artwork.
