(SALEM) - A woman on her way to work early this morning turned around to investigate after seeing a pair of shoes in the roadway.
Stephanie Taylor Ferriell, of the Leader-Democrat reports, the woman found the teen lying in a ditch.
The teen complained of chest pain. He was taken from the scene to St. Vincent Salem Hospital then flown by air ambulance to a Louisville hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known at this point.
Police are investigating the incident as a hit and run which occurred on Houston Street, near Salem High School
The boy reportedly regularly walked to school and was en route for a 7 a.m. class this morning.
Police are looking for the vehicle involved in the crash. It is described as a 1992 Ford F150, unknown color, passenger headlight would be missing or cracked.
