(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park will host “Indiana Parks on the Air,” an amateur radio event on Sept. 8, from noon to 8 p.m.
Licensed operators from the Daviess County Amateur Radio Club will be in the parking lot outside the Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom Memorial, near the main gate.
Amateur radio (aka HAM radio) operators will be broadcasting from the park and communicating with operators in Indiana and other states and even in foreign countries. Several operators will be available to explain amateur radio to visitors.
The operators will also explain how amateur radio can be used in emergency events such as tornadoes and ice storms, when telephone and normal radio communications fail.
Park admission during the event is $5 per in-state vehicle and $7 per out-of-state vehicle.
