Two Arrested After Breaking Into Home

Last updated on Friday, September 28, 2012

(PEKIN) - Two members of a trio caught red-handed in a Pekin burglary Wednesday morning were arrested that day; a third remains at large.

According to Washington County Sheriff Department Captain Roger Newlon, a relative of the homeowner saw the two force the door open and go inside the home in the 7000 block of Blue River Road. The home is owned by Janelle and Bill Hagan.

The Salem Leader reports that the relative called 911 and reported there was a red 2007 Chevrolet running in the driveway. The relative then went to the car, reached in, turned off the ignition and took the keys.

That's when 25-year-old Eric Sanders, of Henryville, ran out the back door and was found about an hour later on Olive Branch Road and was arrested.

His sister 24-year-old Michelle Sanders, of Henryville, ran out the front. She was found about two hours later, walking on Blue River Road headed toward Pekin.

Despite a daylong search with an Indiana State Police helicopter and the Salem City Police K-9 unit, the third person was not found.

Newlon says charges are pending against the third person.

Eric Sanders was charged with burglary and theft, his sister Michelle was charged with aiding burglary and aiding theft. Newlon says the two could face additional charges because police found items in the car that could link the two to other burglaries in other counties.
