(UNDATED) - The candidates running in Indiana’s 9th Congressional District will take part in at least two debates - one in Johnson County and the other in Harrison County - before the Nov. 6 election, but the Democrat in the race is still pushing for more.
Lesley Weidenberner of TheStatehouseFile.com reports that the newly redrawn 9th Congressional District includes Lawrence, Orange and several other area counties.
Democrat Shelli Yoder had challenged incumbent Rep. Todd Young, R-Bloomington, to 13 debates that would have been spread across the expansive district, which runs from the Ohio River north to Greenwood.
Young's Campaign Manager Trevor Foughty says that the Republican has now agreed to participate in two, although the dates and format have not been finalized.
Foughty says the two events provide geographic balance between the northern and southern ends of the district, and between the current and new 9th District boundaries.
However Yoder's campaign spokeswoman Katie Carlson say it's "unconscionable" that only two debates would take place in a district so large
Franklin College will host the debate in Johnson County and O'Bannon Publishing will host the Harrison County event.
