(SALEM) - Shortly after 6:30 a.m., Wednesday troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg responded to a fatal crash on State Road 60 just east of Deam Lake Road in Clark County.
Late Wednesday afternoon, a second person 24-year-old Curtis L. Heckel, of Louisville, died from his injuries.
Heckel was a passenger in the Chevy Imapala which caused the crash, killing the driver.
According to police, a 2002 Chevrolet Impala was travelling west bound on State Road 60 and for an unknown reason the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1995 Land Rover travelling east bound, causing minimal damage to the Land Rover.
After striking the Land Rover the Impala continued west bound and approximately 300 feet later, struck a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck travelling east bound.
The driver of the Chevrolet Impala was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner's Office. This driver was wearing a seat belt.
There were two passengers in the Chevrolet Impala, a front seat passenger, Jason Orme, 33, of Corydon, IN, he was transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville,with serious injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
A rear seat passenger, Curtis L. Heckel, was also transported to the University of Louisville Hospital via air ambulance with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. He died at the hospital.
The driver of the Land Rover, George Napier, 38, from Charlestown, IN, was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the 2002 Ford pickup truck, William Piper, 29, of Salem, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital via air ambulance with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The name of the deceased driver is not being released pending notification of the next of kin. The rear seat passenger in the Chevrolet Impala is unidentified at this time.
State Road 60 was closed for approximately four hours due to the crash.
