(WASHINGTON) - The Washington City Council voted Monday to raise water rates.
At a public hearing several residents told the Council that raising the rates would hurt senior citizens and other on limited or fixed incomes.
The Councilmen acknowledged that the rate hike was something they didn't like, but that after twelve years of no increases, the water utility was no longer solvent and something had to be done.
The increase will raise the water rates of the average home-owner around $8.81 per month.
