(WASHINGTON) - Thursday morning, a 16-year-old Washington High School student was injured in a car-pedestrian accident near Gate 4 of the Hatchet House on North East 7th Street.
According to a Washington Police report, Olivia Sherman, a junior at WHS, was crossing the street and did not see a southbound PT Cruiser driven by 40-year-old Eric Boomershine, of Washington.
Police say the area was very congested with pre-school students, busses, and other vehicles.
The teen told police she did not see the car until she walked in front of it.
Witnesses told police Boomershine was driving in a normal manner and that neither the driver nor the student saw each other until it was too late.
Sherman was struck in her right hip and thrown to the pavement causing her to hit her head on the pavement. She was taken to the Daviess Community Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of her injuries.
