Last updated on Monday, September 24, 2012

(MITCHELL) - For the first time in Persimmon Festival history, an “Idol” will be crowned. The Persimmon Festival Idol competition starts with preliminary performances and judging Thursday in the auditorium at Mitchell High School.

There are two age divisions: youth, ages 10 to 17, and adult, ages 18 and older. During preliminary performances, contestants will be allowed a small amount of time to perform a song of their choice in front of judges.

Youth performances will be from 5-7 p.m., and adult contestants can perform from 7-9 p.m. Sign up to sing just prior to the start of the preliminaries.

Those who pass through the preliminary round will be contacted to perform on the Main Street stage from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. Winners will be chosen from the final group of contestants.

Sponsored by Z102, contestants must provide lyrics and their own background music. The maximum song limit is four minutes. No explicit lyrics are allowed.
