Last updated on Tuesday, October 16, 2012

(MITCHELL) - The community of Mitchell is rallying around 11-year-old Andrew Terrell, the son of Zach and Lindsey Terrell, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Andrew is currently at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where he's been receiving blood transfusions and a second round of chemotherapy to treat the disease.

He came home Friday, but was soon back in Riley's intensive care unit. Andrew began suffering from a severe headache and was diagnosed with a blood clot in his head. He is on a blood thinner and hospital staff is watching him closely.

Andrew had a ultrasound on his arm and shoulder Monday. The test showed that he has a blood clot in his shoulder too. He had his chemotherapy beginning around 4 p.m. Monday and will have a spinal tap today.

Diagnosed with the disease Oct. 6, a Facebook page was established to honor the Mitchell Junior High School sixth-grader in his fight against the cancer. Visit http://www.facebook.com/ShareAndrewsStory

In the meantime, donations can be made to: Bloomfield State Bank C/O Zachary Terrell for Andrew Terrell.

"Andrew's Fight" T-shirts and bracelets are currently in the works to help raise more funds for the family.

A kickball player, Terrell will be honored at a Big Daddy Kickball Fun Day and Awards Ceremony Oct. 27 in Mitchell.

The T-shirts and bracelets will be sold during the event, or if you'd like to pre-order a T-shirt, you can call Dee at 583-0612, Miranda at (317) 409-4746 or Aimee at 545-1309.
