(BLOOMFIELD) - 44-year-old Carl Haug, of Bloomfield was arrested Monday on a child pornography charge after local, state and federal officers served an arrest warrant at his home on Nancy Avenue.
He was arrested on one charge of possession of child pornography. Haug was taken to the Greene County Jail and posted 10 percent of a $4,000 bond and was released an hour later.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says the investigation is ongoing and could result in additional state and federal charges.
Sgt. Durnil explained that the investigation started when someone using the IP address from Haug's home sent child pornography to multiple undercover officers on multiple occasions by a peer to peer network.
"This was yet another case where our ISP mobile forensic lab vehicle has been deployed to a scene and was able to recover evidence and contraband in real time, thus avoiding the sometimes months wait when recovered computers and other data storing devices are sent to a lab to be analyzed for evidentiary purposes," Durnil wrote in a press release.
Durnil says the Indiana State Police was the first law enforcement agency in the nation to use this mobile lab and was given a national award in 2007 for its use. The second ISP mobile lab that was put into use just two weeks ago has been deployed eight times, Durnil said.
Speaking of the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Durnil wrote, "These are dedicated law enforcement professionals that work tirelessly to identify and prosecute people that use technology and the Internet to victimize children. Within the Indiana State Police there are 14 highly motivated, fiercely dedicated, and extensively trained men and women of the ISP Cyber Crimes and Crimes Against Children Units."
He continued, "These detectives investigate online child enticement inclusive of the production, dissemination, advertisement, receipt, and possession of child pornography. Forensic examiners conduct both on-scene and centralized forensic examinations of computers, phones, and other digital media collected for evidence, all in support of the investigator assigned to investigate the complaint."
The Indiana State Police leads the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and has over 50 affiliate criminal justice agencies throughout the state. Crimes Against Children Unit detectives are also trained as Digital Media Recovery Specialists (DMRS). This allows them to conduct forensically sound previews of computers, phones, and digital media with the support of examiners assigned to the Cyber Crime Unit, according to Durnil.
