(LOUISVILLE) - Free dental exams are being offered by University of Louisville dental school students.
"Missing school for dental related reasons is one of the main reasons children miss school. Studies have shown that students can't focus or concentrate well in school when they have tooth pain," said Dr. Ann Greenwell. "Children with two or more big cavities have been shown to have a lower grade point average and more illness than kids without any cavities."
The U of L Dental School is offering free dental exams and X-rays to any child through the end of the year. "Children don't have the vocabulary to say something is bothering me. They demonstrate that discomfort by not eating complete meals, not sleeping all night, being hyper, not being able to watch a show," said Greenwell. "So they have the same problem in school. They can't sit and listen to a whole lesson plan and accomplish tasks in school."
All children are welcome to make an appointment for a free dental exam. The number to call is 502-852-5642.
