(BEDFORD) - Brian Gilbert, who was injured after being crushed in the mechanisms of a scissor lift at GM, was taken off life support at University of Louisville Hospital Monday afternoon.
Family members say Gilbert, of Oolitic, was taken off life support around 2 p.m.
Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner says the accident on October 10th at Bedford's GM Casting Plant left Gilbert critically injured after being caught in the mechanisms of a scissor lift across the chest and shoulder area.
He underwent extensive surgery to repair damage to his spine and pelvis.
The second man injured was Emerson "Preston" Hall. Wagner says Hall suffered serious injuries but they were not life-threatening.
Robert Wheeler, communications manager at GM Detroit, says no other details about the accident were available. A health and safety team is investigating the accident.
