(EVANSVILLE) - Over 1,000 acres of former mine land in Pike and Gibson Counties has been added to the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge.
According to a story in the Evansville Courier and Press, the Sycamore Land Trust has purchased 1,043 acres of what was the Columbia Mine, from Peabady Energy.
The area will be managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the wildlife refuge.
