Lil' Bub Host Meet And Greet At Bloomington Animal Shelter

Last updated on Saturday, October 27, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Lil’ Bub, the famous Bloomington cat who is also beloved worldwide, will be making a very special appearance locally to help out Bloomington animals.

The City of Bloomington Department of Animal Care & Control is pleased to announce that Lil' Bub will be appearing at the Animal Shelter for a meet and greet from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday to help the Shelter kick off the final adoption event of the ASPCA $100K Challenge. The Shelter is located at 3410 S. Walnut St.

The "Howl-o-Ween" Adopt-a-Thon will begin Friday and run through Oct. 31.

During the Adopt-a-Thon, all cat and kitten adoption fees will be waived and all dog adoption fees will be $20. Lil' Bub merchandise will be available for sale during the meet and greet, with 15 percent of the proceeds donated to the Animal Shelter.

"We are honored to be hosting Lil' Bub," Director of Animal Care and Control Laurie Ringquist said. "It is so generous of Bub and her people to share her time to draw attention to other animals in need."

Lil' Bub was the runt of an otherwise healthy litter from a stray outdoor mother, and was born with several genetic mutations that make her special. She is a "perma-kitten," which means she will stay kitten sized and maintain kitten-like features her entire life.

She is also a dwarf, which means her limbs are disproportionately small relative to the rest of her body. Bub rose to fame online after videos of her were uploaded to YouTube in November 2011.

Since that time, her owner has often used her fame to help other animals in need. Bub has her own blog, Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter is the only Indiana shelter participating in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100,000 Challenge, a three-month competition among 50 shelters nationwide to find homes for more cats and dogs than during the same period in 2011.

A total of $500,000 will be given in various categories, with the grand prize of $100,000 going to the shelter that saves the most lives. In order to be eligible for prize money the Shelter has to save a minimum of 300 more lives than during the same three months last year.

In 2011, the Shelter saved 757 lives so it must save at least 1,057 this year to be eligible. To date, the Shelter has saved 936 lives.
