(BLOOMINGTON) - Chad Ley was kicking back, watching a movie and enjoying the fireplace when police arrested him Sunday night.
Police say Ley had broken into the $239,000 brick ranch house he was enjoying and that the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe parked in the garage had been stolen from the driveway of Elaine Irwin, a model and the former wife of rock star John Mellencamp.
The house, in the 700 block of Keystone Court in Bloomington's Tamarron subdivision, is unoccupied and on the market. A real estate agent who went to show the house to a prospective buyer Sunday found the key lock box missing from the front door and the lock had been changed.
The agent called police, who then contacted the homeowner, who used a garage door opener to allow officers into the house.
Inside the garage Lt. Bill Parker says police found a black Tahoe.
As police searched the house they found a movie was showing on the TV, a fire burning in the fireplace, clothes strewn around and an ashtray full of cigarette butts. In the kitchen, Parker says they found a prescription bottle with Chad Ley's name on it.
Police found 35-year-old Ley upstairs near the master bathroom after they heard a toilet flush.
Ley was arrested on charges of burglary, auto theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.
Parker says they found a wallet stolen from a man in Lawrence County, a Shell credit card that belonged to someone else and assorted items they believe were stolen over the past week from vehicles in Bloomington.
