(BEDFORD) - Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner says the accident at Bedford’s GM Casting Plant left one man critically injured and another with serious injuries.
"Brian Gilbert was caught in the mechanisms of a scissor lift across the chest and shoulder area," Wagner says. "They had him free when we arrived. Our part was to help prepare and load him into the waiting ambulance and into the helicopter. Mr. Gilbert suffered a crushing blow and at that point paramedics were breathing for Mr. Gilbert."
Brian Gilbert is from Oolitic.
The second man injured was Emerson "Preston" Hall.
"The second man's injuries were not as life-threatening," Wagner says. "He was seriously injured, but in much better shape than Brian."
GM spokesman Robert Wheeler confirmed both men were flown by helicopter from plant at 4:47 p.m. to a Louisville Hospital. GM representatives also went to the hospital.
Wheeler said more details will be released as they become available.
