(MITCHELL) - 33-year-old Jerold Leatherman, of Wells Avenue in Mitchell, has been charged with armed robbery and was taken to the Lawrence County Jail at 12:50 p.m. Monday.
According to Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman, Leatherman is accused of entering 60's Eastside gas station at just before 8 a.m. Monday and taking money and cigarettes.
No one was hurt during the robbery.
Witnesses told police Leatherman had a gun. He then fled in a blue truck with flames on the side.
Leatherman was found by Lawrence County Police at Swifty Road and Dixie Highway, near the Swifty gas station. Police say he was driving a different vehicle.
Hardman says some of the money and cigarettes were recovered.
The gas station at the corner of 9th Street and Ind. 60 east is owned by Mike and Lori Smith of Mitchell.
Leatherman is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
