(ODON) - Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatal car accident in Odon, Ind., after a 17-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed.
Samantha Elisabeth Porter, of Odon, was heading east on County Road 1200 North, which is east of County Road 950 East, when she attempted to avoid a cat in the roadway.
Porter lost control, as the 1999 Mercury Cougar traveled off the roadway and collided into a utility pole. The majority of the impact was taken to the driver's side door, which caused significant damage and broke the utility pole at ground level.
Deputies believe Porter was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Deputy Coroner Chris Coney pronounced Porter dead at the scene due to massive head trauma.
Counselors will be available at North Daviess High School, today, to help students and staff.
Jenkin's Funeral Home in Bloomfield said a visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Simon J. Graber Building in Odon from 4 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Porter's funeral will be on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at North Daviess High School.
Assisting the Daviess Co. Sheriff's Office was the Odon Police Department, Daviess County Coroner's Office, Odon-Madison Volunteer Fire Department, Southwest Medical Ambulance Service, Duke Energy and Daviess/Martin REMC.
