(FAYETTEVILLE) - 42-year-old Leslie Mitchell, of Bedford, passed away from injuries she suffered in a motorcycle crash Sunday night on Ind. 450 West near Louie Smith Road.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 44-year-old David Terrell, of J Street, was traveling west on Ind. 450 West when a deer ran out in front of his 2012 AMF motorcycle.
Terrell was arrested Sunday at 10:45 p.m. and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death. The report shows that Terrell, according to portable breath test, had a blood alcohol content of .25, three times the legal limit for which a person can drive in Indiana.
According to police the deer ran from the south side of the road and into the path of Terrell's motorcycle. Terrell swerved to miss the deer and ran off the north side of the roadway, rolling over, throwing both him and his passenger, Mitchell, from the cycle.
Mitchell suffered head injuries and was rushed from the crash site and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital where she later died.
Terrell suffered minor head contusions and bruises.
Lawrence County Officer Cody Medlock, says Terrell told police he had been drinking large amounts of alcohol and had taken prescription medication before the wreck.
The crash is still under investigation.
