(MITCHELL) - An Orleans man was injured after he crashed his motorcycle at the intersection of Main Street and Ind. 37 in Mitchell early Tuesday morning.
According to a Mitchell Police report, 47-year-old Gary Gerkin Jr. had stopped at Jack's Lounge and was heading home when he crashed his 1984 AMF motorcycle at the intersection of Main Street and Ind. 37.
Police say Gerkin was traveling east and nearing Ind. 37 when he hit the curb, lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. Gerkin and the motorcycle both landed on Ind. 37.
Gerkin, who suffered head injuries, was unconscious when police arrived. Gerkin was not wearing a helmet.
While medical crews treated Gerkin, it was determined Gerkin had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
The helicopter left Paoli, circled above the crash site a few times, and landed in the highway in front of the Clark gas station and CVS Pharmacy. Gerkin was transported to University Hospital in Louisville.
