(MITCHELL) - The extracurricular clubs at Mitchell High School are banding together to support Andrew Terrell’s fight against leukemia.
Beginning today, students will be selling orange ribbons they created for $1 and $2 donations. Those who donate more than $2 will receive a hand-painted wooden pin, created by the MHS Art Club, under the direction of Becky Mason.
"We'll sell them through Tuesday, then we're planning a community-wide Orange Day on Oct. 31," Jocelyn Schlegel, president of the MHS SADD chapter said. "Orange is the color designated to show support for leukemia."
Terrell is a Mitchell Junior High School sixth-grader who was diagnosed with leukemia on Oct. 6. The son of Zach and Lindsey Terrell, he is currently undergoing treatment at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Schlegel said students wanted to help Terrell's family with costs associated with treatment, so all of the clubs banded together for the fundraiser. She said both junior high and high school students are working together to support Andrew and his family.
Pins and ribbons can be purchased by students at school, or members of the public can stop by the high school office to make a donation and obtain a ribbon or pin.
Students and members of the community are encouraged to wear orange Oct. 31, along with the ribbons, to show support for the youngster's cancer fight.
