(SHAKAMAK) - Parents of the junior class at Shakamak High School will host their first-ever 5K Zombie Run on Nov. 4.
Stephanie Rudolph of the Greene County Daily World reports that the 5K course will take place at Shakamak State Park, and runners will race through the rolling hills around Lake Shakamak. Strategically placed obstacles will be throughout the course.
Participants may choose to dress up as a zombie and race to catch the most flags, a zombie racing to finish the course first, or as a human racing to finish the course first. Zombies will be required to provide their own costume, though some zombie makeup and props as well as concessions will be available for purchase.
There will be no gate fee into the park, and the event will start at the Shakamak Pool parking lot.
Race Day registration will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and the race will begin at 2 p.m.
Participants will be broken up into three age divisions: 10-13, 14-17, and 18 and over.
The first male and female "survivors" will be awarded with trophies, as well as the first male and female zombies to finish, and the zombie male and female that captures the most flags. A prize will also be awarded to the best zombie costume, according to one of the organizers, Cheryl Green.
The race will be conducted rain or shine.
Packet pickup will be available on Nov. 3 at Shakamak High School gym from 9 to 11 a.m. or prior to the start of the race.
The fee to participate in the run will be $20 and registration should be submitted by Sunday, Oct. 28 to guarantee a T-shirt.
