(WILLIAMS) 21-year-old Shelbi Smith, of Bedford, suffered head and neck injuries that required her to be flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment after a Friday night accident on Ind. 450 near Fayetteville-Coxton Road.
Smith was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bedford hospital after the 11:52 p.m. crash and then flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital for testing. She was doing fine as of Saturday.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, Smith was a passenger in a 1993 Dodge Ram driven by 19-year-old Clinton Allender, of Williams. He told police he was going too fast when he crested a hill at a turn and lost control of his 1993 Dodge Ram, slid off the roadway and hit a tree.
Smith was not wearing her seatbelt and crashed into the truck's windshield. Allender was not hurt.
A portable breath test revealed Allender hadn't been drinking.
