(IRELAND) - A former employee of the Boy Scouts from Dubois County has been charged with receiving and possessing child pornography.
United States Attorney Joe Hogsett's office reports that 33-year-old Ryan C. Bieler of Ireland was charged after a November 8th search of his home.
During the search, DVDs were found which allegedly depict minors in sexually explicit conduct. The discs were purchased from an international movie company located outside the U.S.
More images and movies were found on his computer.
Bieler allegedly admitted to downloading and purchasing the material during an interview with law enforcement.
The arrest comes after a joint investigation between the United States Postal Inspection Service and foreign law enforcement officials into the movie production company. The investigation began in 2010. In May of 2011 the movie company was searched and it was discovered that Bieler was a customer.
Bieler was most recently employed as a Senior District Executive of the Boy Scouts Buffalo Trace Council, which is based in Evansville and includes five counties: Warrick, Spencer, Perry, Pike, and Dubois.
Because of evidence found at Bieler's home and his comments during interviews with police, and his access to young boys through the boy scouts, Hogsett is urging parents to talk to their children and report any further information to the US Postal Inspector at (317) 328-2512.
Bieler could face up to 30 years in prison and substantial fines if he is found guilty.
Formal charges by indictment were expected in the coming weeks, and more criminal counts could be added.
