(FRENCH LICK) - The Melton Public Library invites musicians and other entertainers to open-mic night at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 at the library.
Performers are asked to arrive early to register that night or sign up in advance at the library's main desk. The program is free, and refreshments will be served.
Noel Festival ornaments: Melton will sponsor an ornament contest during the Springs Valley Optimist Club Noel Fest
Ornaments should follow the festival's theme of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Prizes will be given in several age group categories from children to adults. The ornaments also will be displayed at the library and will be sold at silent auction with proceeds going to the Clothe-a-Child program.
Deadline for entering ornaments will be 5 p.m. Dec. 3. Ornaments may be entered at the Springs Valley Elementary School office or at Melton Public Library.
Cookie exchange: In conjunction with the Noel Fest, the library will host a cookie exchange program beginning at 7p.m. Dec. 4 in the library basement. Participants are asked to prepare three dozen home-baked cookies to trade and package them in plastic bags, each containing six cookies.
Each cook also is asked to bring the recipe for the cookies, which the library staff will then compile into a booklet. Members of the Melton Library book club also will read selections from the Charles Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol." Wassail and hot chocolate will be served.
