Mitchell To Develop Community Comprehensive Plan

Last updated on Thursday, November 29, 2012

(MITCHELL) - Mitchell officials are beginning to draw up a new comprehensive plan for the city.

Mayor Gary Pruett says the more than six year old plan, used by the city to apply for grant money, needs updated.

Pruett added that the city must pay to update that plan, although grants are available to the city to get that done.

Krystal Shetler of the Times-Mail reports that on Monday, the board will have a special meeting at 10 a.m. at City Hall to open bids from engineering firms who are applying to be the ones to develop that plan for Mitchell.

The firms will submit cost estimates and proposals on how they'll work with the city to complete the plan. Bids will be opened, but not awarded at that time.

During the summer, Administrative Resources association held community meetings and conducted a survey to assess the community's needs.

That information, Pruett says, will be incorporated into the comprehensive plan. When an engineering firm is awarded the contract, it will work with the city to hold community meetings and look at the current options and needs within Mitchell.
