(ODON) - 36-year-old Philip L. Knepp, of Odon, was injured when his deer stand gave way.
According to Indiana Conservation Tony Mann, Knepp had just climbed into a fixed position tree stand and heard something "pop".
Mann says the stand gave way, and Knepp fell approximately 25 feet.
Investigating Officers found that the straps holding the stand to the tree had given way.
Mann says Knepp was not using any type of safety harness at the time.
Knepp was taken to Daviess Community Hospital by Southwest Ambulance Service for treatment of back injuries.
The Daviess County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
Saturday was the opening day of Indiana's deer firearms season.
Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind everyone to check their equipment for damage and or wear before using it and to always use a fall restraint system such as a full body harness or vest system.
