(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Chamber of Commerce is finalizing plans for its upcoming 4th Annual “Christmas on the Square” event set for Saturday, December 8th from 6 to 8 p.m. downtown in historic Congress Square.
The free family oriented holiday event will include twinkling lights, a Live Nativity with live animals sponsored by the Orleans Ministerial Association & area churches. Volunteers are still needed to help with the staging of the live nativity and carolering in the park on that evening.
Other planned events will include a children's train ride, horse and wagon rides, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet youngsters and pose for pictures on the historic bandstand with the town's official Christmas Tree. There will be, carolers, refreshments, live entertainment & more. Several of the shops & eatries on & near the square will extend their hours that evening as well including the Country Star Gifts and Orleans Antiques.
The Orleans Methodist Church ladies will also be having a Soup Supper and Cookie Walk in the basement area of the church, located on the square that evening beginning at 4 p.m.
The Chamber's Visitor Center, located on the north side of the square will be open that evening for those wishing to warm up a bit and purchase this year's Christmas ornments featuring the Old Town Water Tower and other Orleans related items. Orleans Phi Beta will also be offering poinsettias for sale at the visitor center. Special postcards will also be available for those little ones wanting to drop a note to the big guy and drop them in "Santa's Mailbox," located in front of the Chamber office. Everyone is encouraged to catch the holiday spirit and come downtown and join in the festivities that night.
