Three Arrested In Connection To Armed Robberies, Possibly Linked To Murder

Last updated on Friday, November 16, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police arrested three people on charges of armed robbery and burglary.

Police believe the suspects are also connected in the shooting death of 25-year-old Joshua Huber, of Cloverdale.

Bloomington Police Lt. Bill Parker says, 21-year-old Cody J. Wasley, 17-year-old Derric C. Bower, and18-year-old Calvin R. Bland Jr., were arrested and charged with the Oct. 23 armed robbery at a Bloomington home.

Parker says, the three were booked into the Monroe County Jail at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday and are being held with $100,000 surety and $1,000 cash bonds.

An arrest warrant on the same charges has been issued for a fourth man, 21-year-old Alexander English, of Bloomington.

According to a police report, three men were inside a house on the 200 block of East 16th Street, and had ordered pizza. When a knock sounded at the front door. One victim answered.

Parker says when the victim opened the door, four or five men, all wearing dark clothes and bandannas on their faces, reportedly forced their way inside the home. Once inside, the group demanded money, marijuana and phones.

The victims reported the incident to police about a half-hour after it occurred. They told police they sat around eating pizza and talked about what should be done, and that is why there was a delay in reporting the crime.

All three victims told police they had marijuana, and that the robbers also made off with a larger amount than originally reported. Parker says it is still not known exactly how much marijuana was stolen during the Oct. 23 robbery.

Police arrested two of the men after making a traffic stop.

The three had been at a trailer in the 1600 block of North Willis Drive the night of the arrest, Police believed English also resides at the trailer.

Parker says the men were arrested without incident.

Parker says, Bland and Wasley admitted to the Oct. 23 armed robbery, Bower declined to answer questions by police.

This is at least the second known robbery police have discovered in the wake of investigating the Nov. 3 robbery-homicide where Joshua Huber was shot and killed.

In that incident the victims reported four to five black men, their faces covered in bandannas, entered the East Dekist Street residence demanding cash and marijuana.

Huber was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he later died.

Bloomington Police Detective Lt. Faron Lake says Huber was in the house with an unknown number of people who were attacked by assailants. After demanding drugs and money, the men then pistol-whipped and beat the victims, Lake said.

Anyone with information on the cases are asked to call police at (812)-339-4477.
