(VALLONIA) - Three men were arrested for allegedly stealing some diesel fuel from a home near the 1000 block of County Road 650 South in Jackson County early Sunday morning.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says 18-year-old Jalen W. Nierman of Brownstown, 24-year-old Joseph S. Taylor of Norman and 18-year-old Alexander D. Walker of Brownstown were booked into the Jackson County Jail for theft and attempted theft. Their bond was set at $1,005.
The sheriff's department received a 911 call around 1:15 a.m. about three men trying to steal diesel fuel from the home. Officer Adam Nicholson went to the home and spoke to the homeowner. The homeowner gave Nicholson a detailed description of the vehicle the men were in, which was an older model red Ford pickup truck. The homeowner said the truck was last seen heading west toward the Vallonia area.
Three more county officers also went to the area to help find the vehicle in question. Nicholson found the truck performing a U-turn on State Road 135, and it then headed west on County Road 500 South. Nicholson stopped the truck the 5000 block west of County Road 500 South and identified the men.
During the investigation, officers learned that the men were driving around the county attempting to steal gas and diesel fuel. They were successful in getting 10 to 15 gallons of diesel fuel from a farm located on County Road 700 South just west of the Tampico area. They were unsuccessful at other locations due to locks being on the fuel tanks.
The owner of the farm was contacted, and the diesel fuel was returned.
