(WASHINGTON) - Redistricting, Refinancing, and Rezoning were the main topics for Washington’s City Council last night.
The Washington City Council held a special meeting prior to Monday's regularly scheduled Council meeting to discuss redistricting of the City's five council districts.
Mayor Joe Wellman told Council members that after the 2010 census, there was a 44% disparity in population between two of the city's council districts.
The Councilmen discussed several options. They will take up the redistricting question at another special meeting on December 3.
In their regular meeting, the Council agreed to the year-end transfers of funds between several accounts in the City's Budget.
The Council also passed an ordinance refinancing the City's bonds from the Waterworks project in 2006. Mayor Wellman said the refinancing will save the City $500,000 over the life of the bonds.
In other action, the Council heard the first reading of an ordinance rezoning property north of the U.S. 50 By-pass at the intersection with Troy Road from multi-family residential to Commercial C-2. Residents of the area were in attendance and told the Council they agreed with the rezoning request.
