(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police arrested a man early Monday morning and charged him with rape.
Bloomington Police Detective Sgt. John Kovach says at about 5 a.m., police were called to a residence on the 400 block of South Washington Street where they arrested 32-year-old Carlos Nunez, of Bloomington.
Nunez and the 25-year-old woman, are coworkers, Kovach said, along with the woman's boyfriend. The three of them returned to the home between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. from an office Christmas party where they had reportedly been drinking alcohol.
Kovach says once at the home, the woman went to bed while Nunez and the boyfriend stayed up watching television and drinking beer.
The woman awoke in her bed to find Nunez having non-consensual sexual intercourse with her. She yelled for her boyfriend, who entered the room and wrestled Nunez off of her and dragged him outside.
Kovach says the woman called 911 while her boyfriend restrained Nunez. Police arrested Nunez on a preliminary charge of rape. Kovach says, the woman was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where a rape kit was performed.
Nunez, a resident of the 700 block of West Gourley Pike, refused to speak with authorities regarding the matter.
