(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has received a grant of $1.5 million from the Korea Foundation and three Korean alumni of the Bloomington school to establish an endowed chair.
The chair in Korean studies will be housed in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures in the School of Global and International Studies.
University officials celebrated the grant at a gathering of Korean alumni of Indiana University in Seoul on Dec. 1.
IU President Michael A. McRobbie says the grant will enable the school to expand and enhance its academic programs in Korean studies.
McRobbie also says he believes it is the first time international alumni working with a government organization have contributed in a major way to support academic programs at IU through the funding of a chair.
