(BLOOMINGTON) - National Fraternity officials confirm the lease for IU’s Zeta Beta Tau’s house on the Jordan Avenue Extension has not been renewed for the 2013-14 academic year.
The IDS reports that IU additionally placed the chapter on deferred suspension through Jan. 1, 2014, with social restrictions imposed until April 23, 2013, following a judicial review.
IU Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life Michael Goodman says those sanctions are accompanied by more than 15 "educational expectations."
The chapter was found responsible for actions that endanger the community, disorderly conduct, harassment and alcohol violations.
International ZBT Executive Director Laurence Bolotin says the chapter's landlord decided not to renew the IU chapter's lease says the fraternity will be unhoused during the 2013-2014 academic year while it rebuilds its internal structure with new members, but looks to be housed again in the 2014-2015 year.
Kyle Mataloni, ZBT president, after refusing to comment says the removal is not related to University review.
Interfraternity Council officials confirmed that the chapter had undergone a University judicial review and that the ZBT letters had been removed from the house but were unavailable for further comment.
Bolotin says the international organization also conducted a review of all ZBT members at IU, and some were removed from the organization due to, "their past judicial record on campus.
He also says some men elected not to participate in the membership review, and they were granted early alumni status.
According to University reports, the fraternity had been placed on disciplinary probation, a "serious warning" that could result in a student organization's suspension in the case of further misconduct, since Feb. 23.
