(BLOOMINGTON) - A cat beaten and tortured is getting a fresh start with a new loving family.
Everyone thought Lennox had died after an Indiana University student admitted he slapped and threw it before he tied a cord around her neck then beat her with a rock.
The Stabler family went to the Bloomington Animal Shelter last week hoping to pick up Lennox, only to find out she had been stolen half an hour before.
But now that she is back, Lennox, who has been renamed Freya, is settling into her new home just fine, according to new owner Kenneth Stabler.
Stabler and his wife were devastated for days after hearing 19-year-old Christopher Gugliuzza had taken Freya away and possibly killed her.
The IU student told investigators he slapped the three-month old kitten, tied a cord around her neck and then beat her with a rock.
Two IU students later found frail Freya in the woods. Thankfully, she survived and the Stabler family wanted to bring her to a loving home.
"As soon as I learned she was alive, instantly, my only thought was I want her home as well."
Stabler says Freya barely suffered any injuries and is still the little cuddly diva she was when they first met.
As strong as this curious cat is, her new family believe anyone would hurt her.
"I hope he's brought to justice at this point," Stabler says.
Gugliuzza has been suspended from IU. He made his first court appearance on Friday. He has been charged with theft and animal torture.
