(NORMAN) - Lawrence County Police are investigating an explosion that destroyed a mailbox early Sunday morning.
According to Sheriff Sam Craig calls began coming into the department at 1:29 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters from Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department were alerted.
"We set up a staging area at Back Creek Road and East Powerline Road until officers could determine what they were dealing with," says Fire Chief Steve Nolan.
Nolan says that practice is routine when officers receive a call of an explosion.
"Several called reporting hearing a loud explosion," Craig says. "We discovered a mailbox had exploded at a home in the 1000 block of East Powerline Road. We were lucky no one was hurt."
Craig says the homeowner also heard the explosion, looked outside and noticed his mailbox was destroyed and called police.
Craig says detectives are investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to call police.
