(BEDFORD) - Mark Young of GAI Consultants updated Bedford board of Work members on the status of the Plaza Drive South project.
The purpose of the project is to alleviate traffic on the city's west side by extending Plaza Drive south past Cambridge Square Apartments and link it with Ind. 37. In 2010, the city created a Tax Increment Financing district that includes that area plus Shawnee Drive on the southwest section of town.
Young told board members plans need to be revised because an environmental issue has surfaced regarding a natural habitat.
That, combined with other necessary adjustments, will cost the city an additional $46,000.
Board member Tony Ravenna, Byron Buker and Mayor Shawna Girgis approved the expenditure.
Young says a public hearing will be convened in the spring with construction to commence in 2014.
