(SEYMOUR) - A 21-year-old Seymour man accused of robbing a teenager of his bicycle on April 31 has received a six-year prison term.
Jesse J. Stover will have to serve only two of those six years in jail, according to Jackson Circuit Judge Bill Vance's order issued Nov. 13.
The remaining four years of the sentence were suspended by Vance. They will be served instead on supervised probation. Stover also received 196 days credit for time spent in jail awaiting trial and sentencing.
Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Chalfant said the goal in this case was to punish Stover for robbing the boy of the bicycle and to deter others from doing this to children.
"With a young offender like this with no prior convictions, I worry about giving him too much time because I don't want him coming out any worse," Chalfant said.
