(SHOALS) - A Shoals man was arrested after he allegedly held his wife against her will and threatened to kill her and himself.
According to Martin County Sgt. Keith Keller, police received a call at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting 46-year-old Brian Lee Wade was intoxicated and making threats of suicide and possibly killing Bararetta Wade.
The caller, Wade's son, says Brian was not letting anyone in or out of the home at in the 20000 block of Cale Road.
When police arrived, Babaretta had escaped and told police she did not know where her husband kept his guns. She also told police Brian was intoxicated.
She alleges her husband grabbed her around the neck and pinned her against the wall. She says he grabbed her shirt and made a fist telling her "he was going to shut me up if I didn't leave him alone."
He then told his wife he was going to kill himself.
Officers from the Martin County Sheriff's Department set up a perimeter around the house and waited for the Indiana State Police ERT team to arrive.
In the meantime Brian Wade stepped out the front door with his hands in the air.
Keller ordered Wade to the ground and Wade was placed in handcuffs and charged with criminal confinement, strangulation and battery.
Keller says officers contacted a Martin County judge who issued an emergency detention order. The order was issued because Wade was threatening to commit suicide.
Wade was then taken to Good Samaritan Behavioral Unit for treatment.
Assisting at the scene were Martin County Chief Deputy Tony Dant, Deputy Luke Harmon, ICO Tony Mann, ISP Trooper Ken Miller and several other ISP units.
