(HELTONVILLE) - Firefighters from Pleasant Run and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments battled Mother Nature and a blaze early this morning - Mother Nature won.
According to Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Chief Steve Nolan the home of Carl Douglas was destroyed.
"Right now we believe the fire was caused by the wood stove," Nolan says. "But we are still investigating but we are pretty sure that is what caused it."
Nolan says road conditions this morning hindered the departments arriving at the home on Back Creek Road.
"With these road conditions it took us a while to get there," Nolan says. "It took all we had to get there. When we arrived the home was fully involved."
Firefighters were able to save an outbuilding behind the home.
"We were not able to pull our trucks up close to the house, " Nolan says. "But we were able to get the brush truck there and then ran a line from one of Shawswick's to fed the brush truck water, containing the blaze."
Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.
