(BLOOMINGTON) - Sue West has been appointed as the new City of Bloomington Controller by Mayor Mark Kruzan.
"Sue West has always been motivated by a spirit of public service and will be an excellent addition to the very strong leadership team we've assembled at City Hall," Kruzan said. "She's immensely qualified for the post and will contribute greatly to city government's efforts to responsibly manage public dollars."
West has more than 25 years experience in public and private accounting working as a Certified Public Accountant for Geo S Olive & Co (now BKD) and Chief Financial Officer for two local corporations, PTS Electronics and Big Red Liquors.
She graduated with honors from Missouri Valley College with a BS degree in Business Administration.
West served on the Monroe County Council from 2002-2006 and was elected Council President in her second year. She served as budget liaison to the Monroe County Commissioners, Courts, Assessor, Auditor, and Treasurer.
"I have enjoyed public service and to blend it with my professional skills will make for a great opportunity," West said. "I look forward to joining the professional and dedicated staff already working at City Hall."
West replaces Mike Trexler, who served as City Controller for the last four years.
As Controller, West will oversee a $90 million overall city budget.
Kruzan said West is entering city government at a critical time in its history. "With changes in state laws governing local finance, escalating insurance costs, and increasing service demands, the City Controller post will be called upon to effectively and creatively manage the changing world of city budgeting," Kruzan said. "Sue West has dedicated her professional and public careers to meeting those kind of challenges."
